By Samuel Luka, Bauchi

As the current hardship being experienced by Nigerians following the recent fuel scarcity and other policies of the federal government bites harder, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for utmost priority to the well-being of Students as well as the entire citizens of the country.

The Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Bauchi NANS Axis, Comrade Usman Abubakar Mansur stated this on behalf of the students while addressing a press conference at the Bauchi state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Monday.

The NANS further called for
transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s natural resources to ensure that the welfare of citizens, especially students, is given the desired attention.

Comrade Mansur who was accompanied by other leaders of Bauchi NANS, said the press conference was aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing the country, especially those that directly impact the welfare and livelihood of Nigerian students.

According to him, the serious economic hardships being experienced by Nigerians and students in particular is making life unbearable.

He decried that the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, coupled with the persistent scarcity of fuel, power outage as well as the exorbitant rates of electricity units have created an unbearable burden on the shoulders of the Nigerian populace.

“This dire situation directly affects the ability of students to pursue their education effectively which contributes to the overall deterioration of our quality of life”, Comrade Mansur stated.

“We call upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently address these critical issues by implementing concrete measures to alleviate the economic burden on the Nigerian people”, the NANS requested.

The leaders of the students expressed their commitment towards advocating for the rights and welfare of students across the nation.

The NANS re-emphasized their appeal to the federal government to act on their call urgently in order to alleviate the economic hardships facing the people and ensure a brighter future for the youth of Nigeria.

They also expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state for his unwavering support towards education and students’ welfare.
