The Federal Ministry of Health has revealed that plans are underway to transform General Hospital Misau in Misau local government area of Bauchi State to the status of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
Dr. Jimoh Salaudeen, Director of Hospital Services and Chairman of the Assessment Committee from the Federal Ministry of Health, who represented the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Pate, made the disclosure when he paid homage to the Emir of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Sulieman MNI, at his palace on Monday.
According to him, the federal government is also planning to transform the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare into a teaching hospital.
“At the same time, in order to reach the entire part of the state and also fulfil the second pillar of the present administration, which is increasing population outreach, the government is transforming general hospitals into federal medical centres,” he said.
The director added that under the plan, the existing Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare is to be transformed into a teaching hospital.
Dr. Salaudeen, who informed the Emir that he was in Misau on an assessment visit to Misau General Hospital as directed by the health minister, applauded the physical structures in the hospital.
He further explained that the essence of the visit was also to see the facilities on the ground, personnel, and other infrastructure put in place in the hospital and report back to the president for further action and approval.
“I was directed to come to General Hospital Misau to look at the facilities that are on the ground, the equipment, and the personnel in preparation for the transformation of General Hospital Misau into the Federal Medical Centre (FMC),” Dr. Salaudeen pointed out.
“We’ve seen for ourselves that in terms of structure, they are on the ground; in terms of equipment, we discovered that a lot of them are underutilized,” the director observed.
“We also see that manpower is another factor; some of the equipment that is lacking in some tertiary health institutions is there in General Hospital Misau, but right from the time it was purchased, it has not been used,” Dr. Salaudeen said.
He further added, “So when we go back to write our report, we will reflect on all that we have seen, and we hope and believe that, God willing, this hospital will get the approval of the President to become a Federal Medical Centre.”
The director also appreciated the warm reception accorded them by the emirate and the entire people of the Misau local government area of Bauchi State.
Responding, the Emir of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Sulieman MNI, expressed gratitude to the minister of health, Dr. Ali Pate (Chigarin Misau), whom he described as Misau’s son, for making efforts towards the realization of transforming the Misau General Hospital into a Federal Medical Centre.
He said that the development will offer job opportunities to thousands of jobless people from Misau, Bauchi State, and the country in general.
While stating that the development will also provide the good people of Bauchi State with accessible and quality health care services, the Emir appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the transformation of the general hospital into the Federal Medical Centre (FMC).
