Journalists urged to embrace investigative reporting to promote good governance and transparency

A Bauchi based online Newspaper, Wikkitimes in partnership with Wale Soyinka Centre for investigative journalism has organized a one day training for Northeast Journalists and bloggers with Support from MARCARTHUR Foundation.
The workshop, our Corresspondent gathered was,aimed at exposing young journalists to grassroots investigative, Data and Solution Journalism held on 14th July,2022 at NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi state.
Speaking earlier, an organizer of the training who doubled as the proprietor of WikkiTimes, Mr. Haruna Mohammed explained that the aim of the workshop was to train the young journalists to imbibe the habit of investigative journalism at the grassroots in order to uncover mismanagement, fraud and other wrongful doings doings by public office holders.
He added that doing so can lead to good governance as far as democracy is concerned.
Mohammed further called on the journalists to always digout the hidden challenges in their respective domains, as according to him, things are not going well, hence the need for collaborative effort to overcome the numerous challenges.
Participants were, at the end of the training, issued with certificates.
Handing over the certificates to the participants of the training, the Bauchi state Chapter Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Umar Saidu congratulated the trainees for being part of the workshop.
Comrade Umar therefore, described the certificate as worthy.
The Chairman urged the beneficiaries of the training to contribute their own quota towards ensuring free, fair and credible polls ahead of the forthcoming 2023 Nigeria’s General Election to allow Democracy continue to exist in the country.
The beneficiaries of the training, Baushe Daily Times reports, were Journalists and bloggers from within and outside the state capital and its environs.
Some were drawn from Albarka Radio, wikkitimes, Baushe dailytimes, as well as dailyreporters among others.
Some of the participants interviewed by our correspondent expressed gratitude to WikkiTimes and promised to put into practice, what they have learnt.
Highlight of the occasion was group photograph with the NUJ Chairman, organizers and the entire participants at the workshop.
