BY KHALID IDRIS DOYA, Bauchi
Chairman caretaker committee of Dass Local Government Council in Bauchi state, Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo has thumped-up for Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed for the autonomy he bestowed to the 20 LGAs of the state which made them possible to execute people’s oriented projects.
“We thank the almighty Allah for sparing our lives and giving us the opportunity to serve our people. We also thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Abdulkadir Mohammed (Wazirin Dass) for making it possible to serve our people well through the realization of the Local Government Autonomy in the State”.
By this singular act, the chairman said, Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has placed them among the few Local Government Councils in Nigeria that operate independently without any interference, stressing “This is the secret of our developmental projects in the Local Government”.
Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo was speaking yesterday while commissioning a N50 million new market project, christened ‘Bala Mohammed New Market’ in Dass, headquarters of the LGA to boost the economy of the area.
“We are here to commission the new BAM New Market to boost economic activity in the local government and distribute some items and money worth the total sum of N50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Naira) only to the most needy and vulnerable individuals across the local government”.
Chairman Mohammed Jibo expressed the belief that the market project will help a lot in diversifying the economic base of the Local Government and the people generally, either collectively or individually.
He explained, “On behalf of Dass Local Government Council I welcome you all to this epoch making occasion of the commissioning of the BAM New Market and the 50,000,000.00 grant empowerment to some selected individuals in the Local Government Area”.
Jibo also assured the people that more such projects and programmes are on the way being tailored to economically support them, recalling that the LG has in the past initiated and implemented numerous development programmes.
He enumerated the projects to include the provision of healthy and portable water in some communities, renovations of some dilapidated primary school structures, provision of educational materials such as teaching and learning aids, as well as provision of health care facilities to some health centres across the local government, among others.
“The local government also invests a lot on security matters due to the in-flow of some miscreants into the local government area from other states. We now have relative peace in the Local Government as people go about their farming and business activities without any fear of being attacked.”
Jibo acknowledged the support and guidance the local government is receiving from the Emir of Dass, Dr. Usman Bilyaminu Othman in the implementation of developmental programmes for the benefit of the people, and appreciated the state commissioner for local government, Alhaji Ahmed Sarki Jalam for his unflinching support at all times.
He concluded, “To the people of Dass, we have no word to express our gratitude to you for the support and care you show to us. We only pray to Allah to continue to grant us good health and opportunity to serve you better. As your servant, it is our covenant that we will do everything within our capacity to see to it that Dass is developmentally uplifted to higher pedestals and our people live a better life.”
