NEDC, Yobe Govt commences 3-day awareness training on climate change

The North-East Development Commission in collaboration with Yobe State Government has commence a three day training on the application of alternative energies to mitigate the effect of climate change.
While welcoming the participants, the Yobe State NEDC Focal Person/Coordinator, Dr Ali Ibrahim Abbas said 80 participants were drawn from various women groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders, NGOs/CBOs, environment officers, farmers groups, among several other stakeholders.
While speaking, the representative of the MD/CEO NEDC, Mr. Adamu Lawan who is NEDC’s Head of Environment and Natural Resources, explained that the training was designed to create more awareness on climate change, adaptation and use of alternative energy among others in the region.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Environment Hon. Sidi Karasuwa represented by Alh. Garba Tahir, Director of Forestry and Wildlife, said the ministry had raised 3 million trees for planting to mitigate effects of climate change.
He said that the training would augment Gov. Buni’s efforts towards mitigating environmental challenges in the state.
Some of the participants lauded the gesture and pledged to step down the training to their respective communities.
He added that similar kind of the training is underway for more stakeholders in the State.
