Plateau Crisis: Gombe Students Evacuated From UniJos Appreciate Governor Yahaya’s Prompt Response To Their Distress Call

Students of Gombe State origin who were recently evacuated from the University of Jos on the directive of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya due to security concerns, , were at the Government House Gombe to thank Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for promptly responding to their distress call.

Receiving the students’ representatives on behalf of the Gombe State Governor, the Secretary to the State Government Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi said it was the responsibility of any responsible Government to protect the lives and property of her citizens.

“When Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya got your Save Our Soul, SOS message, he immediately instructed my office and that of the Commissioner of Internal security and ethical Orientation to arrange for the evacuation of all Gombe State students studying at the University of Jos, so that, to the Governor was simply fulfilling his constitutional responsibility”.

Professor Njodi however thanked the students for deeming it necessary to come and register their appreciation to the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, describing their foresight as not only mature but a moral booster to the present administration in State.

“I must equally commend you for keeping calm and organising yourselves even in the midst of heightened tension associated with maiming and killings in Jos, some of you could have been frightened and run into the bush and in the process anything could have happened; but thank God you are here to appreciate us and by implication to say Hallelujah to God”.

The Secretary to the Gombe State Government used the visit to advise the students to engage in meaningful ventures and be responsive to their parents, immediate community, the State and the country at large, especially at a time when the nation is bedeviling with teething socio-economic and security challenges.

Impressed by their foresight, the Gombe State Commissioner of Internal Security and Ethical Orientation Adamu Dishi Kupto said the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya places premium on the welfare and development of the youths which was why the Governor approved the establishment of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre Boltongo to better prepare the youth for service in whatever capacity they may find themselves.

The Special Adviser to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya on Youth Engagement Abdulmalik Suleiman commended the Governor for promptly ordering the evacuation of students of Gombe State origin from the University of Jos due to security concerns.

Earlier the spokesman for the students, Geoffrey Jonathan Jonnah said the speed with which the Gombe State Government under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya responded to their distress call gives them assurance that there is hope for the youth under his Government.

“To say the least we were terrified with what we witnessed in Jos, as a matter of fact some students lost their lives but thank God here we are hale and hearty and our gratitude must go to God and Governor of Gombe State for evacuating us with the speed of light”.

He said students bodies in Gombe State will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the youth-friendly administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
