By Ahmed Ahmed
Stakeholders in Bauchi state have urged parents and guardians to give the children’s free hand to choose their career.
The Stakeholders made the call at Meanas Schoolars Academy’s 2022 Career weekend in Bauchi, advocating for children to be allowed to choose their own career.
Malam Adamu Aminu, Head teacher Meanas Academy Bauchi, said every child has the right to choose their own career and they have the right to live their dreams.
“A child can only know his interests and abilities better than anyone else. He knows his subjects and areas of interest and thus, can decide his career path easily,
“That is why we organise annually career day for children by inviting Professional from different profession to give talk,”
Dr Habila Alexandra , Guidance counselor also explained that children choose a career according to the wishes of their parents.
“They will have a boring academic life as they will face a lack of interest.
“College life is the best phase of a student’s life. To enjoy this phase and make it more interesting, a child should choose his/her own career path.,” He said.
On her part, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Parents said that she is not against children choosing their own career.
“Parents provide immense support to their kids by guiding and choosing them a right career path.
“No parents would like to spoil their child’s future by making a wrong decision.
“Therefore we should always remember that parents are much more experienced than their children, so nothing is wrong in giving them support and advice,” she said.
Mrs Elizabeth Cah, Parents, pointed out that imposing the interests of parents on the children creates a pressure on them.
“They might struggle under this pressure to evolve. As self-satisfaction is the highest motive of existence, children should be allowed to choose their career on their own.
“So parents should let their children be free to decide their own career line and should support them in their selected career,” Cah streeesd.
