UMTH Chief Medical Director, Ahidjo bags International Peace Ambassador Award

The Chief Medical Director of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo has been giving the the award of International Ambassador of Peace by the Universal Peace Federation.
As contained in the nomination letter dated 2nd September, 2024, the Universal Peace Federation, the Award was meant to be received during the commemoration of United Nations International Day of Peace 2024 in Maiduguri.
According to the letter, each year, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September.
It stressed that “The General Assembly of the United Nations has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples”.
The universal Peace Federation added that the International Day provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to undertake acts of peace and kindness.
“We received with interest, reports of your activities, effective management and committed effort in ensuring health care service delivery, impactful training and research”, the letter noted.
It observed that the effort of Professor Ahidjo has greatly contributed to restoring peace to the State; and promoting programs/projects that seek to transform individuals and the society.
“t is based on these antecedents that the Nigerian, African Regional and the
International offices of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) accepted and approved the recommendation for your nomination to be inducted and honoured as International Ambassador for Peace of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF)”, the letter further explained.
The letter said Universal Peace Federation (UPF), a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), with chapters in more than 194 countries has been established to meet the needs of this time with a mission to serve as a global movement of active, committed individuals, leaders/volunteers and organizations who seek the well-being of the whole human family, guided by a vision for peace that goes beyond the interests of any particular nation, religion, ethnic group, race, culture or civilization.
The Universal Peace Federation added: “We are all aware of our nations’ and global political, economic and social scrimmages and violent conflicts at this very crucial time”.
It said, “though we are facing these challenges and seemingly unending turbulent crises in our own nation, nevertheless this time also, is a time of great vision and hope for humankind; and this, we believe to be true and can be done considering activities of people like you, which has already acquired national and global notion, awareness
recognition”.

Secretary General Nigeria and Amb Ahmed Shehu President/Founder of the organization, the letter noted that going by the actions of Professor Ahmed Ahidjo to date, he has demonstrated an implicit understanding of the value of peace and the need for his community and humanity in general to embrace peace and live together as people of one unified family.
“The organization wishes to salute and commend you for the immense developmental efforts that have so far been observed by many; and in reality, experienced by the people within and outside of Borno Sate during this period of your administration.
Our Correspondent reports that Professor Ahmed Ahidjo has since received the award and the certificate of credence from the organization.
