We’ll push for creation of budget line for students’ scholarship – NUBASS
By Samuel Luka, Bauchi
The newly elected President of National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS), Comrade Sadiq Abdullahi Faggo has assured that the union under his stewardship will work towards ensuring that budget line is created for students’ scholarship by the Bauchi state government.
Comrade Faggo who made this known while addressing a press conference at the NUJ Secretariat Bauchi on Wednesday, opined that when a budget line is created for students’ scholarships, it will further improve the welfare of his members.
“We will try it so that the students would have their own scholarship. When the ministry of education is doing its own grant we are going to gather our expenses that we want the government to consider so that our own will also be included inside the budget of the state so that when it is passed we will have our own scholarship included”, he said.
On the current hardship in the country, Comrade Faggo decried that many students cannot even afford transport money to attend classes in their various institutions.
“Some students doesn’t even have transport money to go to school or pay school fee”, he said.
Faggo who called on the government at all levels and Non-governmental organizations for intervention to keep the students in school, pledged to work towards cushioning the effect of the hardship on his fellow students.
Comrade Faggo while thanking his members for electing him as NUBASS President, pledged to operate an all-inclusive administration by carrying everyone along.
Faggo who recalled promising to prioritize the welfare and well-being of members across the country during campaigns, reiterated that he will protect and promote students’ rights and interests.
“This is another way of saying that I am determined to live above board so as to justify the confidence reposed in me alongside my executive”
In line with Governor Bala Mohammed of the state’s policy, Faggo promised to ensure that special attention is given to the security of lives of all students on campuses.
He said that the recent Governor’s alert to the presidency on the activities of some criminal elements and their high profile collaborators is testament to his unwavering desire for a crime free Bauchi State.
