FUHSA Matriculates 1,488 Newly Admitted Students for 2025/2026 Academic Session

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare (FUHSA), on Saturday, 31 January 2026, matriculated 1,488 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This is the 4th Matriculation Ceremony done to formally welcome the new students into the university community since its establishment in 2022.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bala M. Audu, described matriculation as a statutory exercise that confers bona fide student status in tertiary institutions.
He congratulated the new students for gaining admission through a highly competitive process, noting that many qualified applicants were unable to secure admission due to limited spaces.
Prof. Audu assured the matriculating students of the university’s commitment to their academic development and character building.
He urged them to remain disciplined, hardworking, and law-abiding, stressing that FUHSA maintains a zero-tolerance policy on social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, drug abuse, indecent dressing, vandalism, and truancy.
The vice chancellor further disclosed that the 1,488 students comprises of 1,076 from twenty departments in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, 109 students in the Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) programme, and 49 in Dentistry (BDS).
According to him, the intake include 551 males and 937 females.
The Vice-Chancellor also spoke on academic activities, recalling that the university was temporarily closed on 24 November 2025 following security directives by the Bauchi State Government.
He said academic activities resumed on 5 January 2026 after an improvement in the security situation, while the Senate approved the immediate commencement of the second semester after the first semester examinations to mitigate the effect of the disruption.
Prof. Audu said the university was collaborating with relevant security agencies to protect lives and property on campus, stressing that there are plans for the establishment of a military checkpoint near the main gate, intensified night patrols, provision of a patrol vehicle by the Bauchi State Government, and the construction of a perimeter fence around the female hostel to enhance security and privacy.
He acknowledged challenges including inadequate hostel accommodation, limited lecture halls, and irregular power and water supply, assuring that the management of the university under his watch is taking steps to address the issues.
Prof Audu said there are plans for the provision of uninterrupted electricity and water supply using solar energy, supported by African Development Bank intervention, as well as the construction of additional classrooms and male hostels.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the NELFUND Programme, which he said had eased students’ financial burdens.
Prof Audu who disclosed that 1,798 FUHSA students benefited from the NELFUND during the session, appreciated the Bauchi State Government for additional land allocation, the Borno State Government for staff housing, OPAY Digital Services for scholarships, ASCOEA for infrastructure support, and the FUHSA Teaching Hospital for clinical training.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Dr Dauda Abubakar Katagum, congratulated the matriculants, and advised them to remain focused on their studies.
He reminded them of the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians to support their education, urging them to justify the investment by dedicating themselves to their academic pursuits.
The ceremony was attended by principal officers, members of the university senate, staff, host community representatives, parents, guardians, and members of the public.
