ATBU graduates 25 pioneer medical doctors in Bauchi

No fewer than 25 pioneer medical doctors would be graduated by the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Muhammad Ahmad Abdulazeez disclosed this during a Pre-convocation press briefing at the Senate Chamber of the university in Gubi campus on Monday.

According to him, a total combined number of 19,252 students are going to be graduated during the university’s 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th Combined convocation ceremony.

Professor Abdulazeez who informed that the ceremony will take place between 22nd and 24th February, 2024 added that 19 different projects completed in the last four years in Gubi and Yelwa campuses would be commissioned.

The Vice Chancellor while noting that the event will commence on Thursday, 22nd February, 2024, said Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state and his Katsina state counterpart, Dr Dikko Umaru Radda as well as the Honourable Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman and his Health counterpart, Dr Ali Pate are expected to grace the occasion.

Prof Abdulazeez who further announced that all the three Senators representing Bauchi state have been invited, explained that on Friday, 23rd February, 2024 a convocation lecture will be delivered by a Professor of Media studies, Umar Pate by 4:00 pm at the 1000 seat capacity lecture theater of the Yelwa Campus.

He said that the lecture which has, “Education and Nigeria’s National Integration in the Digital Age: Matters Arising” as a topic, will go simultaneously along with exhibition from various departments of the University at the same venue to show-case some of university’s break-through in research and fabrication.

“The third day of the ceremony will be held at the convocation square of the University here in Gubi campus. It will feature the graduation of four sets of graduands”, Prof Abdulazeez said.

“It is significant to mention here that we are graduating our first set of 25 medical doctors from this University. We are graduating a combined total number of 19, 252 students”, he further disclosed.

The Vice chancellor gave breakdown of the graduating students to include; 404 diploma graduands, 15,460 undergraduates, 1,653 post graduate Diploma,1,559 masters and 176 PhDs.

He said out of the total number, 337 are graduating with 1st class, 5,489 with 2nd Class Upper, 7,241 graduates with 2nd Class Lower, 3rd Class numbering 1,867 while 526 others would graduate with pass.

Prof Abdulazeez said that the University Senate has approved for the award of honourary Doctorate degrees to five distinguished Nigerians who will be honoured on the convocation day.
