FMC Azare trained over 400 Staff, assures continued Quality Service Delivery

The Medical Director of Federal Medical Center Azare, Bauchi state, Dr. Abdullahi Ibrahim has disclosed that over 400 staff of the hospital have been trained during the eight years of his stewardship.
Dr. Ibrahim who disclosed this in an interview with our corresspondent recently, said that the staff were trained in both clinical and non-clinical fields with a view to boost the delivery of quality health care services to the citizens.
“We have put our focus on quality clinical services delivery through both human and infrastructural development”, he noted.
The CMD said the hospital always ensures that patients gets efficient and effective clinical services from its committed staff.
According to him, many Doctors, Pharmacist, Nurses and other clinical staff have been trained in various Specialties in order to deliver better services in the last eight years.
“We have trained more than 400 staff in various categories, we trained Specialist Consultants in Family Medicine, , Surgery, Nephrology, among others”, he said.
The CMD further said, during the period under review, accreditation was secured to train Resident Doctors; Radiology Department has both for National and West African Postgraduate Medical Colleges accreditation and Paediatrics has the West African College. We also had visit of the accreditation teams for Obstetric and Gynaecology, Internal Medicine and we are expecting a team for Ophthalmology soon.
On infrastructural development, the CMD said that the Hospital’s permanent site had witnessed remarkable infrastructural development through the construction of road networks and walkways to ease the movement of patients, even the entrance road to the permanent site was dualized.
“We equipped and furnished the Paediatrics and Radiology complexes with the state of the art Equipments and Furniture, we built and equipped the Trauma center including 8 Bedded functional Intensive Care Unit”, Dr. Ibrahim further stated. Adding that, “we therefore relocated the Paediatrics and Radiology Department to the permanent site, so the Accident and Emergency. We also completed the Female Medical Ward and relocated our patients to the permanent site”.
He said that the Central Bank of Nigeria in line with her corporate social responsibility, following a move by one of the former Medical Directors, late Dr. Musa Dambam initiated discussion with the CBN which he took over up upon assumption of office and obtained a grant that enable the hospital to have state of the art Ophthalmology and Pathology complexes at the permanent site.
“Similarly, we got a grant from TetFund through Bauchi state university Gadau to build a College of Nursing Sciences and now the school had already commenced training of nurses and midwives. We have also completed the Consultant Offices that will soon be put to use”, the Dr. Said. “We are even thinking of using it for girls hostel for now.
We have build a Molecular Laboratory which is fully functional and other infrastructures are about to be completed”, he said.
The CMD who described the relationship between the hospital and the host Communities as excellent and cordial, he mentioned that last year the Emir of Katagum visited the hospital and appreciated the level development and service delivery.
“I want to tell you, FMC Azare is one of the Federal Tertiary Hospital that have the least cost of services that are rendered and that it is equipped with state of the art equipments. We have CT Scan, Digital X-ray both mobile and fixed, blood culture machine, among others”, Dr Ibrahim boasted.
He said that the hospital has the personnel that are manning those equipments and the Communities are patronizing them and are happy with the services.
He assured that the staff of the hospital will continue to work as well as improve the services rendered in order to fully satisfy the health needs of the people.
