The leader of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Bauchi state house of assembly, Hon. Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo has revealed the possibility of using consensus to select most of the candidates under his party ahead party primaries.

Aliyu Bobbo who is the member representing Chiroma constituency, Misau local government area in the Bauchi state House of Assembly made this known in an interview with Baushe Daily Times during the weekend.

“Alhamdullilahi, PDP as a disciplined party is preparing to conduct its primary elections and thanks to God, His Excellency, Governor Bala Mohammed of the state has sat down with all the aspirants”, he said.

According to him, as part of the Governor’s demonstration of good leadership qualities through reconciliation, he is sure that most of the candidates will emerge through consensus.

“I am sure that it is not all the elective offices that would go for the primaries since the electoral act has provided for either election or consensus for flagbearers to emerge. So we go for consensus, and its just few of the positions that will go for election”, the opposition Leader assured.

He expressed optimisms that the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam will ensure a level playing ground for all the aspirants like he has been doing since the time he assumed office.

“I am sure he will ensure that justice and fairness is done to every contestant and I am sure whoever win the primaries will be supported by all so that together we can succeed as a party in 2023”, Hon Bobbo said.

On the fact that the sales of the nomination and declaration of interest forms has been closed and he happened to be the only aspirant that purchased the form in Chiroma constituency, Hon Bobbo described it as an act of God.

“This is an indication that the PDP stakeholders have confidence in me, they are impressed about my achievements and delivery of dividends of democracy in the last four years”, he said.

The lawmaker who expressed gratitude to the people of Chiroma constituency for reposing confidence in him, said that action of the people is and indication that they are convinced with what he has been able to for them.

“We have united ourselves and it’s not a new thing. In a developed countries, there is no tenure limitation for a legislators, as long as you are doing your job efficiently, they can allow you to continue since they are convinced with what you are doing”, Hon Bobbo noted.

He further said; “We are giving them the needed representation, we are helping our people, we ensure that we always listen to them. I think that informed the decision of my people in the PDP not to make things difficult for anybody, we have sat down in a meeting and agreed that only one person is contesting”.

“So as long as the electorates are convinced with your performance, there is no need to make things difficult for the party and the people. And if what you are doing is not convincing and you see them bringing another person, you have to as an Honorable, Honorably give way”, he further said.

Hon Bobbo reiterated that PDP is a disciplined party and that is why his fellow aspirants have shown him respect such that no one purchased the nomination form which made him the sole aspirant under it in Chiroma constituency.

He said: “the other aspirants from Chiroma constituency under the PDP did not buy the nomination and declaration of interest forms, and now we are going to wait for other political parties to select their own so that we can meet at the polls in 2023”.
