Aminu Saleh College matriculates about 800 students into 2022/2023 academic session

The management of Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare has matriculated a total number of 799 students into different courses of the Institution.

Speaking during the 37th matriculation ceremony held at the college premises on Friday, the Provost of the College, Professor Asabe Sadiya Mohammed said the event is the second since her assumption of office as the Provost of the College.

Prof Sadiya who recalled that she assumed office on 1st January, 2022, noted that a total of 799 students were being matriculated for the 2022/2023 academic session.

She said, out of the total 799 number, 546 were males while 253 were
females.

The Provost informed that taking the Matriculation Oath is a statutory requirement that every newly admitted student must fulfil before becoming a bona-fide member
of the institution.

According to her, the ceremony formally ushers in the new student to become part and parcel of the College community.

“As we today mark your formal commissioning into the Academy, you need to be reminded on the responsibilities expected from you as enshrined in the
extant laws of the College”, she told the matriculants.

“For each and every one of you to be certificated, he or she must be worthy in character and learning. Our teacher training institutions are mandated to mould your character towards becoming responsible citizens who will
uplift our nation to greater heights”, she added.

The Provost therefore, warned the newly admitted students to shun all forms of vices such as cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, examination malpractice, truancy, insubordination, promiscuity among others that are clearly spelled out in the student handbook.

She further noted that the College deems it a must to equip the students with skills to enable them stand as self-respected and independent persons.

According to her, recent
figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that
unemployment rate in Nigeria is at 33%.

Prof Sadiya said that the figure is indicating that the youths must delve into entrepreneurship rather than depend on Government jobs.

She said that the College is at the verge of becoming an entrepreneurship hub with the much anticipated intervention from the state Government, SMEDAN (through the influence of
Dist. Senator Adamu Muhammad Bulkachuwa (the Sarkin Bai of Katagum) and other well-meaning supporters of the College.

“We are therefore advising you to hasten up in joining us to learning various skills that will help you
stand on your feet after your studies”, the Provost said.

Prof Sadiya reminded the students to always try to maintain peaceful co-existence with their colleagues and respect each other, as according to her, the College is
cosmopolitan.

She assure the students that if they abide by the school rules and regulations, they will find the Institution as the most accommodating and peaceful environment for learning and success.

She also advised the students to always channel their grievances through the appropriate authorities for timely resolution.

Speaking in an interview with our Corresspondent, the Registrar of the Institution, Abdullahi Babaji expressed gratitude to God that the 2022/2023 matriculation ceremony was conducted successfully.

The Registrar who observed that enrollment into the Institution is going down, called for improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to enable the Institution move forward.

He urged the government to advise those colleges that were closed down for operating illegally to transfer their students to the mainstream of colleges that are fully accredited particularly Aminu Saleh College of education Azare or nearby colleges in the state.

The Registrar who said that management of Aminu Saleh College of education has through its excellent academic performance, revealed that there has been positive response from the neighboring Jigawa state where Gwaram Community enrolled 100 students and Birnin Kudu enrolled 120 students among others.

He said effort is on to tour some of the local government areas in Jigawa for them to enroll into the college.

The Registrar who expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed ‘A leader with Midas’s Touch’ for his fatherly and visionary intervention in the Institution, added that the governor has exhibited pro-activeness towards uplifting the education sector.

He also thanked Hon Farouk Mustapha, the campaign DG to Governor Bala Mohammed in the just concluded General elections for his immense contributions to Development of the college.
