Bauchi PDP Campaign Council condemns killing of one person by security attached to APC Guber candidate

The Bauchi State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council has voiced out condemnation to what it described as “the shooting of a group of people in Akuyam community in Misau LGA of the state.

They said that the incident which happened during Governorship campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led to the death of one person.

briefing Journalists at the Government House on Wednesday, the Campaign Director General (DG) of Governor Bala Mohammed’s re-election Campaign Council, Hon. Farouk Mustapha described the situation as most unfortunate and condemnable.

He said, information available to them indicated that the security agents attached to the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar rtd fatally shot 2 people, Saleh Garba, 35 years old and Yakubu Yunusa, 20 years old at Akuyam Town in Misau LGA where the APC went for a campaign rally on Monday, 30th January 2023.

Hon Farouk said eye witness account had it that the affected persons were among residents that were only chanting “Ba ma yi, Ba ma yi”, which simply mean, “we are not supporting you, we are not supporting you”.

He said that the slang is used was meant to show their rejection of the APC and its gubernatorial candidate.

He said, as a result, the Police attached to the APC Governorship candidate found the chant offensive and started positioning themselves in different postures that is more aggressive.

“Suddenly, the overzealous security agents started shooting into the crowd and the bullets struck many people”, he said.

According to Hon. Farouk, two young persons were hit while others sustained serious gunshot injuries.

“We were equally informed that the rally ended abruptly and the gubernatorial candidate left the venue not minding to see the injured victims”, the Campaign DG alleged.

Farouk who disclosed that injured victims were rushed to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare for treatment, expressed sadness that one of the victims, 20 year old died in the hospital due to the gunshot in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday), 31st January, 2023.

He added that the deceased young man has since been committed to the mother earth according to Islamic injunctions.

Hon Farouk said, “consequently, the PDP campaign council is saddened with this ugly incident, especially as it relates to the cause of the death of Yunusa Yakubu.”

While condoling the family of the deceased, the Akuyam community and the entire people of Bauchi State, the campaign council of the PDP condemned in its totality, the use of force by security agents attached to opposition parties in the state.

The PDP therefore, urged the relevant security agencies to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to book.
