The Bauchi state People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Coalition Stakeholders has drummed support for the Acting National Chairman of the party, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum.
Chairman of the Coalition, Comrade Sagir A. Sardauna while briefing newsmen at Zaranda hotel Bauchi on Wednesday, noted that Damagum has been a loyal member of the PDP since 1998, hence the need for all to support him to further unite the party for the task ahead.
“We hereby declare our total support for our great party’s Acting National Chairman, H.E Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, he has been a member of PDP since 1998”, the Coalition said.
According to the Leader of the Coalition, Damagum has since 1998 remained consistent and totally committed to the success of the PDP.
They further explained that Damagum supported the 2023 PDP presidential candidate whole heartedly before, during and after primary election against all other aspirants.
The Coalition which recalled that the Acting National Chairman of the PDP won Yobe state for the first time in history, said those kicking against him lost their polling units while others supported the Labour Party candidate, among others in the last general elections.
Sardauna who added that some of the critics of Damagum supported the APC candidate in their respected states, regretted that some of them lobbied for either ministerial positions or other head of government parastatals, under the present All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.
The Coalition therefore, called on all lovers of democracy, PDP BoT members, NWC members, PDP governors forum, including all organs of the party and critical stakeholders to put their differences aside and rally round Damagum to effectively coordinate the upcoming Gubernatorial elections in Ondo, Osun and Anambara states.
According to him, the Acting National Chairman is facing internal criticisms because of his commitment to the unity of the party.
“It is because he has resisted those who wanted to destroy the party and move to merger or handing over the party to individuals for 2027 ambition”, the Coalition alleged.
The Coalition which decried that some of the critics are sponsoring propaganda against Damagum on pretext for anti party, vowed never to allow any individual or group attack the personality of the Acting National Chairman or disrespect him.
While insisting that they will resist any attempt to remove Damagum unconstitutionally, the Coalition called on all the party members and leaders to ensure that the recent Abuja Federal High court judgement is respected.
