FUHSA is ready for the takeoff of eight new courses: NUC.

The National University Commission (NUC) has disclosed that, based on the adequate preparation on the ground, the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare (FUHSA) Bauchi State is ready for the launch of eight newly added programmes for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai made the disclosure on Saturday when he led other officials of the NUC on a resource verification exercise at the FUHSA.

While expressing satisfaction with the level of preparedness for the takeoff of the new courses, Professor Yakasai said that resource verification encompasses both infrastructure and manpower.

“We have gone round, spending nearly the last four to five hours assessing the level of preparedness; we have seen the structures in the university, the classrooms, the lecture theatres, the laboratories, and we have been to the old and new sites of the Federal Medical Centre Azare. Overall, we can say that with the things seen, the university is ready for these programmes and for the takeoff; otherwise, they wouldn’t have invited us”, the team lead of the NUC declared.

“We know even when they invited us, we didn’t come on time, but that gave them more time to prepare, so you can see overall that the university is ready for these eight courses; they have applied to the NUC to commence the 2023/2024 session”, Professor Yakasai further noted.

While rating Azare number one among the three other Health Sciences Universities that were created at the same time in terms of performance, Professor Yakasai pointed out that Azare has gone far and is catching up with Benue.

“I can say Azare has done exceptionally well because I am part and parcel of the creation and the other courses. We have even advised Katsina and Ekwere to come and learn from Azare. You have dedicated staff and committed principal officers, and they have lifted everyone here, ready to progress and move the university forward, “Professor Yakasai said.

He advised the management of the FUHSA, to maintain the pace to enable it to overtake its peers.

Professor Yakasai advised the staff of the university to cooperate with the management in order to ensure academic excellence.

Earlier speaking, Professor Bala Mohammed Audu, the vice chancellor (VC) of the university, said that the NUC team was at the university for resource verification with a view to making way for the start of the eight new courses.

According to him, the programmes include B.Sc. Physiotherapy, B.Sc. Audiology, B.Sc. Dental Technology, and B.Sc. Dental Therapy.

Others, according to the VC, are D. Optometry, B.Sc. Environmental Health, B.Sc. Information Technology and Health Informatics, and B. Sc. Epidemiology and Bio-Statistics.

“So, they have gone and looked at our classrooms, our laboratories, our setting within the university as well as our setting within the hospital, and they have also looked at our academic staffing as well as our support staff. They have also looked at our curriculum within the context of the CC mask of the NUC, and so far from their exit report, they are impressed with what we have put in place.

They will write their recommendation to NUC, who will give us the final decision. But we strongly believe that they will give the go-ahead to mount all these eight programmes this 2023/2024 academic session, ” the VC further said.
