Maiduguri Varsity clears air on Lecturer’s death, assures safety of campuses

The management of University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has clarified that the lifeless body of a Senior Lecturer with the department of Physical and Health Education, Dr. Abdulkadir Kamar was sighted in his office following an alarm raised by members of his family.

The University which made this known in a press release Monday, decried what it described as “numerous reports, rumours and misrepresentations, especially on the social media” regarding the recent death of the Lecturer.

“The attention of the management of University of Maiduguri was drawn to numerous reports, rumours and misrepresentations, especially on the social media regarding the recent, painful demise of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamar, a Senior Lecturer in the
Department of Physical and Health Education”, the release read in parts.

According to the press release signed by the Director, Radio and Public Relations of the university, the management of the university on Monday, 1 April, 2024, received a report that the Lecturer’s lifeless body was sighted in his office, following an alarm raised by members of his
family.

“We wish to clarify that on Monday, 1 April, 2024, Management received a report that his lifeless body was sighted in his office, following an alarm raised by members of his family”, the university further noted.

It pointed out that the police and other security agencies have already launched an investigation
with a view to unravelling the circumstances surrounding the Lecturer’s death.

The university management said in view of the gravity of the matter, Management advises all staff and students to remain calm and go about their normal, legitimate businesses.

The press release assured that the university management is working closely with relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter.

It further assured parents, guardians and other stakeholders that the University campus remains safe and secured for teaching, learning and community service.

The university expressed appreciation over the numerous messages of sympathy and support from all its
stakeholders in university’s moment of grief.
