NMA election: Unveiling Dr. Egbo, an erudite medical practitioner

Dr Benjamin Egbo is a philanthropist consultant Radiologist who has been in private practice in Potiskum Yobe State for the past 33 years.

He graduated from the prestigious University of Calabar, Calabar state (Malabite) in the year 1987.

In the year 1988, Dr Egbo completed his houseman ship at the then Central hospital Warri in Delta State and served his mandatory NYSC programme at the National Metallurgical Development Centre (NMDC) , Jos in 1989.

After working in Jos for some time, he migrated to Potiskum Yobe State where he established his private practice, the Potiskum Medical Centre (PMC), in Potiskum as the Medical director, a position he,s holding till date.

He also bagged a degree in in Health Planning and management (MHPM) from the equally prestigious university of Maiduguri in the year 2007.

After 25 years of a highly successive clinical private practice Dr Egbo ventured to go back to the University of Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH) to pursue a residency programme in the faculty of Radiology.

He started in the year 2017 and passed his part two in the year 2022, thereby becoming a fellow of the prestigious faculty of Radiology of the National Post-graduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN).

Presently, Dr Egbo is the Chairman of the committee of past Chairmen of Yobe state Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) as well as the Protem Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) Yobe state chapter.

Over the years, Dr. Egbo has mentored several doctors to enviable heights and has offered scholarship to several Yobe State indigenes, both Christians and Muslims.

In his private Practice, Dr. Egbo has been a role model, mentoring other upcoming young private practitioners, he has the largest and most organised private clinic in Yobe state, with fully installed Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

He has won several awards amongst which is the Nigerian Humanitarian award in the year 2022 and a meritorious award by the staff and management of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital , UMTH, Maiduguri in the year 2023.

Dr. Egbo a happily married man with children has over the past two and half decades, served the NMA meritoriously in various capacities.

Dr. Egbo has in 2002-2005, served as Chairman Nigerian Medical Association , Yobe State, Chairman Advisory committee on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) (2011/2012 and 2013/2014).

He also served as member NHIS committee on the review of benefits package in 2013 as well as Chairman Adhoc Committee on Immunization from 2015 to 2016.

Dr. Egbo also within the period, 2017/2018 served as Chairman Adhoc Committee on Health and Standards Committee.

He didn’t stop there but went ahead to serve as Chairman adhoc committee on Biomedical Engineering from 2021 to 2022 and as a Board member representing the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at the University of Maiduguri Teaching hospital (UMTH), Borno state from 2018 to 2023.

He is presently aspiring for the post of National Secretary General of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), he has promised to make significant changes in the modus operandi of the NMA secretariat when elected.
