Outgoing LG Auditor General retired voluntarily, Bauchi assembly confirms

The Bauchi state house of assembly has put to rest, issues surrounding the retirement of the Auditor General of local governments in the state.

As contained in a
Summary of Tuesday plenary of the assembly made available to newsmen by the spokesperson of the speaker, Comrade Abdul Ahmad Burra, the session was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule.

Burra said that the confirmation came as a result of the report of the House Committee on Public Service which was mandated to investigate alleged breach of law in respect of the office of the local government auditor general.

According to him, the report was laid before the house by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Dan’umma Bello (Giade Constituency).

“The Committee states that it was given the assignment after the Honourable House received a complaint on the breach of law that established the office of the Local Governments Auditor General in which the Honourable mandated it to investigate the matter”, the summary of the plenary explained.

Burra quoted the report as saying the Committee after looking into the Law, invited the management of Bauchi State Civil Service Commission for interactions.

He said, according to the Committee, their findings revealed that the outgoing Auditor General for Local Governments retired voluntarily.

“The Committee recommends that the House should maintain status quo on the issue of the retired Auditor General for Local Governments and proceed on the process of screening of the nominee presented by the Government to the Honourable House for screening and confirmation”, the summary of the plenary said.

It noted that the committee also advised that Government should adhere and comply strictly to the existing law regulating audit services.

“The Honourable House unanimously adopted the recommendations of the Committee and directed House Committee on Public Account to carryout the screening and report back to the Honourable House in two weeks”, Comrade Abdul Burra said.
