Police arrests five suspects over robbery, burglary offences, recover robbed items

Bauchi state police command has arrested suspects over offences ranging from armed rubbery, burglary and phone snatching across some parts of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahmed Mohammed Wakil said in a crime bulletin made available to newsmen on Sunday that the arrest was part of the Command’s effort to combat crime and criminality in the state.

According to SP Wakil, detectives attached to the A’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Bauchi command arrested a 24 year old Umar Abubakar AKA (Barbertov) following a complaint received on the 1st August 2023.

The PPRO said that the suspect who was armed with a dangerous weapon, trespassed into the victim’s house situated at Kandahar Area of Bauchi and attempted to steal the victim’s Jincheng motorcycle AX 100 model.

The crime bulletin explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect belongs to a notorious underworld group that specialized in burgling innocent citizens’ houses within Bauchi metropolis and robbing them them of their valuables.

SP Wakil said that the suspect voluntarily confessed to committing the crime during interrogation and is currently cooperating with the detectives in mentioning some of his accomplices.

SP Wakil who said efforts has been intensified to arrest the indicted accomplices, further announced that operatives attached to Soro Divisional police headquarters also arrested Yahaya Inusa and Abubakar Ibrahim over armed rubbery.

He said that the two suspects, all armed with Dane-gun and cutlass had stormed their victim’s residence on 31/07/2023 at about 2300hrs and demanded for money.

He said that the victim showed some resistance to the suspects by confronting one of them who was armed with a Dane gun, as a result, run away.

The PPRO said, on reaching the scene of the incident, detectives led by the Divisional Police officer recovered exhibits abandoned by the suspects.

He said that the suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.

The crime bulletin added that the command also arrested two suspects, Usman Musa ‘m’ 18yrs aka Kan Daki of Gwallameji and
Usama Sulaiman ‘m’ 18yrs aka Keya of Birshi Gandu for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, causing grievous hurt and receiving stolen property

The PPRO explained that that the suspects were arrested following information made available to the command on 27/07/2023 that at about 2000hrs some group of unknown persons numbering about four, armed with machetes and other deadly weapons robbed a handheld phone Techno WP3S belonging to one Destiny Samuel “m’ 11yrs and Numzar Gambo ‘m’ 9yrs all of Birshi Gandu area of Bauchi state.

He said, Police Detectives attached to E’ Divisional Headquarters led by the DPO swung into action, rushed to the scene and arrested the above mentioned suspects who have confessed to taking part in the crime and indicted two others who have been at large.

The PPRO who further said a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing suspects, added that investigation led to the recovery of one Itel phone, one machete, five Sticks, one Samsung galaxy-S8 black in colour and
One Samsung Galaxy AO3 red in colour as exhibits.

SP Wakil added that others recovered are; one Techno KB7J blue in colour, one Techno Pouvoir gold colour, one Itel blue in colour, one Panasonic phone blue in colour, one Itel 1516 plus gold colour, one Techno blue colour and one Techno A33 pink colour.

The PPRO said some of the recovered items include; one Power bank black in colour, one Lenovo laptop black colour, one ASUS laptop black colour, one Compaq laptop black colour, 23 GSM pouch, one Laptop charger, one Mouse, and one Phone charger.

He said discreet investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be profiled and charged to court.

According to the crime bulletin, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Auwal Musa Muhammad commended the efforts of the officers and men of the Command for their unrelenting commitment and professionalism in discharging their statutory duties towards curtailing all forms of criminal nuisance in the State.
