Bauchi NGO Establish Volunteer Champions For Women Inclusion In Politics

An Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHH) Foundation with the support of Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF) has established 20 volunteer He-for-He Ambassadors/ Champions of women participation in leadership and politics.

The Programme Manager of ASHHF Mr Kingsley Yallings stated this during the training of the champions He -for -He on Wednesday in Bauchi.He said the ambassadors/Champions would advocate gender equality as well as calling on political parties, governments and others to do their part in empowering women.

Yallings said the initiatives encourage young men and women to engage in advocacy around making gender equality measures central to public policymaking.

The Programme Manager also stressed that would also advocate for programmes that would uphold women’s rights, including to vote and campaign free from electoral violence.

According to him, capacity gaps mean women are less likely than men to have the education, contacts and resources needed to become effective leaders.

“We have 20 participants 10 were drawn Ganjuwa Local government area, 10 from Bauchi local government area and we’re also provided with certificates. The participants consists of religious and traditional leaders, youth groups and political party members,” he said.

Responding on behalf of the participants Malam Hamza Aliyu appreciated ASHHF for providing knowledge and sensitisation on women the need for women inclusion in politics.

He promised to volunteer taking the same message from community to community as well as encourage women participation in leadership and politics.

Aliyu also promised to step down the training to others in their various communities.

Our correspondent reports that ASHHF is leading in providing holistic GBV intervention across the 20 local government areas in the State.
