Bauchi lawmaker empowers 150 women with N10,000 each to start businesses

The Minority leader in the Bauchi state house of assembly, Hon Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo has under his pet project, ‘Bobbo Women Empowerment’, dolled out the sum of N10,000 each to 150 women within his constituency to enable them start businesses.

The lawmaker while delivering his speech at the venue of the funds disbursement in his home town Misau Sunday, said that the idea behind the donation was to enable the beneficiaries get empowered and be self reliant.

Hon Bobbo who is a member representing chiroma constituency in Misau local government area in the Bauchi State House of Assembly further explained that the empowerment initiative was part of efforts to fulfil his electioneering campaign promises to the electorate.

“We promised them that when we come on board we are going to give at least, little contribution to women as part of our empowerment drive and that is the reason why today we decided to start with 150 women by giving each of them N10,000”, the lawmaker said.

While pledging to continue with the gesture every quarter of the year, Hon Bobbo noted that the second intervention will also capture men.

He added that the empowerment initiative will at its final phase be a combination of men and women.

On criteria used in fishing out the beneficiaries, the lawmaker said he first of all constituted a committee made of his coordinators and other stakeholders that assisted in identifying the would be beneficiaries.

“We have started with them and my coordinators, plus party officials within the female category”, he said.

According to him, those who voted for him are the ones that will benefit from the gesture first before any other person.

“We have to look at those who have contributed to our coming and start with them. Certainly I am a leader and as a leader I belong to all but I have to start with my people first”, Hon Bobbo reiterated.

In their goodwill messages, Hon Babayo Mohammed Akuyam, Hon Sabo Bako Sade, Hon Bappah Aliyu Misau, Alhaji Sarki ALIYU Jalam Commissioner Religious Affairs and other dignitaries that graced the occasion commended the lawmaker for the gesture.

They expressed delight that such philanthropic gesture is being extended to the women, most especially the less privileged ones, adding that it will go a long way in ameliorating their sufferings.

They urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the funds given to them in meaningful ventures that will fetch them profit to enable them help their families.
