How outgoing Sa’adu Zungur University VC saved the institution from collapsing – says Bursar

The Bursar of Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau, Bauchi state, Dr. Musa Kallah Kawu has disclosed that the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Auwalu Uba took over the mantle of leadership at the time the institution was at the verge of collapsing in 2017.
Speaking in an interview with our Corresspondent on Friday, Dr. Musa Kallah pointed out that the university community will miss the vice Chancellor whose tenure is elapsing this month.
“I have never seen a person that is dedicated, gifted like Auwalu Uba, he has leadership qualities, he portrayed it, we have seen it”, he said.
According to him, the Vice Chancellor worked tirelessly to ensure that the system is reformed by introducing academic culture which many have seen.
“We are really with him and we cherish his leadership style. Actually he brought so much to the university, we met the university at the time it was about to die”, Dr. Musa explained.
He claimed that the university was at the eleventh hour to die because revenue wasn’t coming the way it should be which prompted the Vice Chancellor automate the system entirely from admission and collection of funds.
“He blocked all the leakages. He automated the payment in such a way that applicants use their personal portals to apply for admission, once you apply, your admission and even use their phone to pay fees if they are admitted.
The Bursar said on assumption of office, Prof. Uba ensured that all Lecture halls without furniture was furnished for Lectures, workshops, training among others.
He said that the outgoing VC has rebranded the learning process in the university compared to the time he took over its affairs.
“When we came in, we discovered that most times you will see the left over of Examinations that are not taken to the Senate, they were not functioning as senate but now immediately you write exams you will see your result before you move to another semester”, the Bursar disclosed.
He said that during Prof Auwalu Uba results were coming out timely as a result of the automation, adding that the automation has made it easier for both the management and the students to perform their tasks.
“As you register as a student, your name will be taken to your department from the department to your faculty, from there the system will distribute. It will automatically take you to even the hall you are supposed to sit for exams”, he said.
Dr. Musa pointed out that the Vice Chancellor has succeeded in bringing a lot of changes into the university which made it to rank sixth in Nigeria.
“So many parameters are used in the ranking process, which include academic brief, that is the number of courses that the university is supposed to render within a particular period of time”, Dr. Musa stated.
He said during the assessment, Sa’adu Zungur University Gadau was able to attend more than 90 percent with all its courses fully accredited.
The Bursar who described the VC as a very nice person, commended him for inculcating academic culture into the university that was moving at a snail speed before.
While wishing the VC best in all his future endeavors, the Bursar applauded him for addressing numerous challenges that hitherto impeded the development of the University.
The VC was able to identify and addressed some of the major Challenges facing the University through team work. We wish him the best in all his future endeavours with the ways he delivered at Sa’adu Zungur University.
