Play vital role in promoting democracy, good governance, Journalists tasked

A Mass communication lecturer has called on the upcoming Journalists to embrace comprehensive and thorough investigative reports rather than focussing on common news values.
The lecturer who gave the charge during a one day public lecture for students of mass communication, Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi yesterday said by doing so, the media will assume its place in Agenda settings and watchdog of the society as the fourth estate ream for a better society.
The communication Don, Dr. Adamu Hamid Muhammad who is the lecturer with the department of Mass communication, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi was speaking as guest lecturer at the public lecture organized by the Executive members of mass communication students Association (Macosa) Atapoly chapter Bauchi as part of activities to mark the macosa week held on 16th June, 2022 at butterfly theatre hall within the polytechnic.
Dr. Hamid Muhammad who delivered an extensive lectures on the need to consolidate on Democracy system, emphasized for the potential journalists on the need to embrace habit of investigating happenings in their communities in order to profer solutions to the identified issues as well as to uncover profiles of political contestants to allow the electorates have choices on whom to be voted during the exercise of their franchise.
He added that journalists have a crucial role to play in promoting democracy and good governance in the country.
He added that journalists are expected to be enlightening the public on the need to register for voter cards among other election procedures.
In his paper presentation, Comrade Sabo Muhammad who is a lecturer with Atap Bauchi, centered his lecture on public Relation, said there is the need for the younger journalists to have expertise on PR which can allow them to be employed by Government and organizations to avoid employment of untrained and quack PROs.
Comrade Sabo used the medium to thanked the organizers of the kind beneficial event and called for its sustainance.
Earlier in his welcoming address, the Head of Department mass communication, MAl. Bappayo Abubakar, represented by ND program coordinator Mal. Abdurrasheed Bala Tulu used the forum to thanked the guest speakers among other attendees for honouring the invitation and prayed for safe returning to their destinations.
Similarly, in his closing remark, the Dean SGS Dr. Muhammad Auwal (Abu-fatima) appreciated the guest lecturers and thanked the macosa Excos for such initiative.
He called for proper dessimination of invitation cards next time to attract more participants.
Delivering vote of thanks, the Macosa President, Umar Muhammad Shehu expressed his delight for witnessing this year’s celebration as the president and applauded the guests, lecturers and the entire Macosa Students for attending the occasion.
Highpoint of the event was questions and answers session between some of the students and the Guest speakers.
