Youth group faults petition against reconstitution of NEDC management

The North-East Youths Discussion Cycle has faulted a recent petition against the reconstitution and composition of the management and Board of the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) by Northern Youth Rights Protection, alleging violation of the Commission’s act.

The youth group described as baseless, unfounded and uncalled for, the petition against the reconstitution by another group, Northern Youth Right Protection as published in the Sahara Reporters dated 10th September, 2023.

The Chairman of the youth group, Prince Mohammed Sani Hassan who was addressing a press conference on Sunday described the petition issued by an unknown group of individuals under the umbrella of “Northern Youth Rights Protection” as baseless.

“First and foremost, we want to express our complete satisfaction with the appointment of the reconstituted Board of the North East Development Commission (NEDC)”, Hassan said.

The group’s Chairman who expressed firm believe that the personalities chosen to serve on the Board, are highly qualified and capable of steering the region towards the much-needed development.

Hassan while stating that the Board represents the collective wishes of the majority of stakeholders in the North East sub-region, commended the federal government for reposing the confidence in them.

“The allegations made by the aforementioned group lacked substance and credibility. The North East Development Commission Act was meticulously followed during the board’s reconstitution, and there is no basis for the claims of violation,” he stressed.

The group which called on the relevant security agencies to investigate the individuals behind the petition, suspected that their action is aim at sowing seeds of discord and mistrust within the subregion.

“The faceless group members should be held accountable for their attempts to destabilize the peace and progress we are striving to achieve”, Hassan pointed out.

The Chairman of the North East Youths Discussion Cycle therefore, passed a vote of confidence on the management of the newly appointed Board of the North East Development Commission.

He said, as a group, they believe in the ability of the reconstituted board members of the NEDC to work diligently for the betterment of the Northeast sub-region.
