We didn’t endorse APC Guber candidate, says Bauchi NUBASS

Samuel Luka, Bauchi

The National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) on Tuesday, debunked reports that it has endorsed the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the state, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar (retired).

Addressing a press conference at the scholarship board office within the state capital Tuesday, the National President of the Union, Comrade Adamu Dauda Yashi, said NUBASS is dissociating itself from the claims.

Comrade Yashi who said that the endorsement story credited to the so-called Bauchi State youths/students in the name of NUBASS was received with shock, added that the information they dished out was aimed at promoting disinformation.

The NUBASS said it was not correct for anyone to say that Governor Bala Mohammed as Patron of the union has failed to pay WAEC, NECO, scholarship or JAMB fees to the students in the State.

“We and everyone here in Bauchi know that the executive Governor has paid the scholarship
allowances to the State students in 2022 and cleared the outstanding charges inherited from the immediate past administration”, the NUBASS President explained.

Adamu Dauda Yashi who said that the portal for the 2023 scholarship allowance payment was
provided, noted that a high volume of the State students applied and the board is currently verifying the applicants.

Comrade Yashi who assured that all successful applicants would be paid their allowances as soon as the verification
exercise is completed, revealed that the state government has paid JAMB fees for 2,365
candidates in addition to payment of NECO for 10,827 candidates, among other interventions too numerous to mention.

NUBASS said that the Governor has in his effort to improve the well-being of students, provided the union with a brand new bus worth millions of Naira to ease logistics and cost maintenance as well as, approval of grant among
others for the union to function effectively.

Yashi who maintained that the Governor’s achievements in every sector of the economy are visible for everyone to see, vowed that NUBASS will not tolerate any smear campaign by faceless cabals against the Governor in the name of the Union.

Comrade Yashi noted that NUBASS is a non-partisan pressure group committed to the interest of Bauchi State students, condemned the claims of the faceless cables that the governor failed in paying
WAEC, NECO and JAMB to the State students, among other unsubstantiated claims.

He said that the report of endorsement was nothing but desperate act by politicians to use the name of the union to score cheap political points through dubious means.

Comrade Yashi said, been aware of the upcoming Governorship election, NUBASS as a pressure group that is committed to the well-being of students is studying the situation and will make its decision known based on the interest of its members before
directing towards fulfilling their civic responsibility.

The NUBASS cautioned institutions, organizations and the general public to be wary of individuals
masquerading or impersonating the office of its President or any other official to extort or defraud members of the public, especially during this electioneering period.

While calling on the security agencies to curb the activities of such groups, Comrade Yashi said NUBASS remains a pressure group without any political affiliation.
