Samuel Luka, Bauchi

Immediate past Chairman Media and Publicity Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi, Comrade Sabo Mohammed has commended the Justice Haruna Tsammani led Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) for performing what he described as a very thorough surgical operation on issues involved in the petitions brought before it by the opposition parties challenging the Victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the last presidential election.

The APC Chieftain who is also the former Director Media and Publicity of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) made this known on Thursday in a telephone interview with our Corresspondent while reacting to the PEPT’s judgement that upheld the election of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu Wednesday.

“All the parties involved laid their complaints. It was a very thorough surgical operation of the issues involved. Even though I am not a lawyer but I am very very satisfied because of how the panel of judges were able to actually brought to fore all issues that were raised to the understanding of the layman”, the APC stalwart observed.

“I think it is an improvement in our jurisprudence and I think those that have triumphed yesterday should be magnanimous in their victory and then those that were not successful should study the content of the judgement before even contemplating on going to supreme court. By and large, it is a very successful judgement to me, especially by the expertise displayed by the Chairman of the panel, justice Haruna Tsammani”, Comrade Mohammed pointed out.

While describing the judgement as a well articulated and very meticulous presentation, Sabo Mohammed opined that, what is now important is for Nigerians to give credit to the panel of justices.

“Let us give them credit, especially the Chairman of the panel, Haruna Tsammani, he has demonstrated a high sense of expertise and he has demonstrated the vast knowledge of jurisprudence and he has demonstrated that his knowledge is worth pursuing at all cost”, he said.

While congratulating the president on the victory, Comrade Mohammed advised him to pay priority attention to the wellbeing of Nigerians most especially now that the economic hardship is biting hard on them following the removal of fuel subsidy.

“This is one area that the president should consider in trying to meet the expectations of Nigerians”, he said.

Comrade Mohammed who acknowledged that the petitioners have the right to reject or accept the judgement, advised them to go back and study the judgement carefully and comprehensively with opened mind, issues raised and dispell by the panel of judges before going to the supreme court if they are not satisfied.

“Let them study it because I can tell you, for the first time, all the issues were brought to our understanding as laymen, how the panel of judges were able to arrive at their position based on the enabling electoral laws as well as provisions of the constitution of Nigeria”, Comrade Mohammed said.

“They have the right to reject or accept the judgement but what all important for now is let them go back to the drawing board and see carefully all the issues that were trashed and treated by the panel of justices”, he advised.

Comrade Mohammed who appealed to the ruling party, the APC to actually work towards improving the wellbeing of the citizenry, reminded them that Nigerians are more concerned about their living conditions.

He said, “the living condition is so terrible, is bad so to speak Mr. Luka. The president should celebrate his victory at the tribunal with magnanimity, Nigeria is in trying moment, things are falling apart, you know hardship is glaring, in fact nothing is working”.

The APC Chieftain said that the president need to bring everybody to a table so that issues related to the unity, Corporate existence and the wellbeing of Nigerians should be of utmost importance not only celebrating the judgement.

Mohammed who stated that Nigerians have been very patient and cooperative to successive governments for a very long time, dvised Nigerians against voting leaders on the bases monetary gains.

“In the future, when it is election time Nigerians should be opened and actually x-ray all contenders at all levels of elections, we should not based our elections on monetary gains, we should not elect people on the bases of their ethnicity and any other premodial considerations such as religion, regions and what have you, we should actually go for people who have what it takes to actually turn around the fortunes of the country”, he further advised.
